Mayor's Greeting |
Welcome to the homepage of Seiyo City!
|
On April 1 2004, five towns combined together, and our city of Seiyo was formed in Ehime. Now, under the slogan "Seiyo - bright dreams for the future, the people, the friendships," we are working to completely utilize the special characteristics of each of these five towns.
The beautiful, terraced mikan fields and rugged coastlines of Akehama and Mikame; the peaceful, open fields in the basin that is Uwa; the mountain towns of Nomura and Shirokawa, where dairy farming and forestry prosper. The distinctive climates of various regions around the mainland of Honshu are all seen here in the unique city of Seiyo. All of the five towns overflow with the light of the sun, and the kindness of people. The sea, mountains and villages change with the four seasons, and life shines brightly.
Seiyo City's charm lies in these magnificent features. If it were possible to fully describe all these unique features in a few short lines, this website would become just another message board.
This website is a place where our citizens and visitors can learn about our town.
With each click and scroll, you will come to love our town more and more.

A Town Where Nature, Culture and People Shine |
Located in the southern part of Ehime Prefecture, taking in beautiful mountains covered with rich greenery, a vast blue sea, and abundant nature, is the city of Seiyo.
On April 1 2004, the towns of Akehama, Uwa, Nomura and Shirokawa from Higashiuwa District combined with the town of Mikame from Nishiuwa District to form Seiyo City. Each town has contributed to broadening the local administration, whilst sharing actively in cultural, industrial and personal exchanges.
Seiyo City is blessed with a vast geographical area, extending from zero meters to 1400 meters above sea level. The total land area is 514.79 square kilometers, with seventy-five percent of this occupied by forest. Ehime Prefecture's Seiyo City is vast and rich in tradition, culture and industry.
Throughout the region, many cultural heritages such as historical buildings and old tombs, as well as folk customs and traditional events, have been preserved and handed down through the generations.
Seiyo City's specialty products not only include Ehime's symbolic mikan (mandarin orange), but also rice, grapes, chestnuts, dairy products and beef. Some people say Seiyo is number one in Shikoku for its wide range of products.
In regards to traffic, in April 2004, the same time as the city was formed, the Seiyo-Uwa Interchange of the Shikoku Expressway was opened. Travel time between southern Ehime and the prefectural capital of Matsuyama was reduced to one hour, leading to an increase in the exchange of people and products.
In the future Seiyo City is expected to be the center city of the southern part of Ehime. Aiming for the achievement of "A Town Where Nature, Culture and People Shine," we will make the best use of the rich regional resources, advance the harmony of the city space and the agricultural fishing village space, create a reliable hometown and aim for further development.
